Deadline Fast Approaching for Ernst Publishing's 2017-18 PRIA Scholarship Award

Out of respect for a founder who worked to advance the industry, Ernst continues to offer gift

ALBANY, NY-May 30, 2017-Persons working in the property records industry who are interested in winning a scholarship that will cover 2017-2018 membership fees for the Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) only have a few weeks to submit their application paperwork. PRIA announced the opening of the application period earlier this month, but the deadline for receipt of applications is June 15. The new PRIA membership year begins on August 1, 2017. Scholarships are offered to one public and one private sector individual each year.

The award was established by Ernst Publishing Co., in conjunction with PRIA, in recognition of the late Carl R. Ernst, for his contributions to PRIA and the extended property records industry. The award criteria requires that eligible applicants have not previously been members of PRIA and have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in their chosen fields, been active in their communities and proven service consistent with the mission and values of PRIA.

"Carl remained dedicated to PRIA and its core values from the day he helped found it and it has become part of our mission to carry on his legacy and continue the work he began," said Gregory E. Teal, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ernst Publishing. "PRIA continues to do a great job of moving the industry into the future. We are very proud to continue the tradition of sponsoring these important awards. We consider it part of our responsibility to give back to an industry that has given so much to all of us."

Carl Ernst founded Ernst Publishing Company in 1989 and began growing it into what would become the leading provider of technology and closing cost data for the real estate and home finance industries for the past 27 years. He was a founding member of PRIA and was instrumental in drafting legislation concerning the Uniform Commercial Code most notably Revised Article 9.

"Carl's work made our modern property records system work for a national home finance industry by standardizing the way fees are reported across the country," said Jan Clark, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Ernst Publishing. "He knew how important an organization like PRIA could be and he worked hard to help build it. It's important to all of us here at Ernst who knew and loved Carl that we keep that spirit alive. Offering these scholarships is one way we do that."

This year's recipients will be selected by a committee that includes the PRIA officers and a representative of Ernst Publishing Co.
